You can use your albums to keep your images organized. Each album can be set up to be either public or private. Public albums will appear in the gallery in your profile. All albums will be available to you to use in your posts.

Your gallery is where you can store your images. Each account gets one gallery which is divided into albums. You start off with one default album, which is your Avatars album. You can create as many new albums as you like.
