It's hard to take religion out of the Holidays, really, but quite honestly I think that no matter what your religion the point of Christmas is to love one another... and for humans, we need a day or a really a month to be honest, to have that put back in our minds.

Growing up, my family focused on family more than anything during Christmas. I didn't even know that movie theatres were open on Christmas day until I was 19.

That's probably quite true Plum. I think we are all guilty sometimes of taking people for granted but Christmas time is when we do suddenly feel the appreciation of everyone around and the giving of gifts is one way to show it.

I don't know if Christ even ever existed and if he did how close he was to God or whatever, but whether one is religious or not, this time of year is aptly named Christ-mas as the spirit of Christ is certainly within us all.

Oh I love Christmas music, both hymns and carols. I have those blasting out for several weeks before Christmas.

Alison talking about her girls, well obviously mine is grown up but I still have my Granddaughters to watch open their pressies. Then the whole day belongs to them with all of us playing the games they get or watching their DVDs or whatever.

My young Christmases were fantastic. We were as poor as church mice all year through but a few weeks before Christmas Mum...

Me I love the decorating & making of Christmas goodies. Spending time with the family. If I have the time then most of my presents are homemade. Like Alison my neighbor is in bad heath & infirm, but feels guilty on accepting charity help as he thinks that there are more people who really need the help more. Even tho he does need the assistance.

I guess I celebrate it for all the reasons. For one that Jesus was born, and I love Santa, and the decorations, and the music... not just Christian Christmas music, but all Christmas music. I also love all the Christmas goodies. Its my favorite time of the year, because it just feels so warm, and special.

My family isn't religious so I was raised with Christmas being taught as, "Santa Claus is at the North Pole with Elves who are making your presents!" So keep in mind... Every good thing you do makes an elf build a good present for you.

Christmas for me holds many wonderful memories of childhood. It was such an exciting time. The wonderful decorations, the smell of pine, the scent of the candles, the special foods, the ringing of the doorbell with people singing Christmas carols. The sense of excitement. All of that.

I am religious, so I observe it for that reason, but not that reason alone.

I remember as a child one year I kept secretly looking at the present I'd bought my mother. I remember how proud I was of it - how perfect it was, and how overjoyed she was going to be.

Now I look forward to the look on my children's face's, and I enjoy the weeks before, finding the perfect gifts. My girl's don't have expensive tastes yet, thankfully. Actually, this year I think...

Oh that's lovely Sniksnak thanks so much for sharing that. I think that really sums up everything that this time of year represents whether it's for religious reasons or not.

Last Christmas was the first time in years that me and mine were living once again close enough to spend Christmas Day with some of the rest of my family, having for many years us all living in different parts of the country. To be able to once again have all of us together was one of the best Christmas...

I am not a Christian, so I am not celebrating it for religious purposes. I like the hustle and bustle of the holidays, buying gifts for my loved ones, getting together with my family, exchanging gifts and always dreaming of new beginnings. Christmas, with all its lights and decorations, makes me happy.
