But she was right. At about 4 AM we were woken up to a belter with vivid lightning and crashing thunder than raged for an hour. Last night I left some washing out on the line and thought it would be soaked but when I got up at 7 it was bone dry. Amazing.

We've not been here long and it's a lovely outlook I must say. But it is dreadfully windy up here! Even a light to moderate wind sounds like a raging gale.

The light gets quite weird here on the island. It looked wintery the sort of light heralding a thunderstorm. There were spits and spots of rain in the warm humid evening air but no actual rain.
