AOL users banned prompt |
Lead | ||
|
Many of our AOL users (including me, an administrator) have been getting Unauthorized prompts, telling them they've been banned and need to contact the
administrators for access. If I then post from my computer at work (not AOL), I keep getting the same banned prompt for a day or two before I can start posting
normally. Many of our AOL users have also been reporting this problem. I can't just tell AOL users they need to change browsers. How can this problem be
rectified, because I suffer from it myself and it's maddening. An administrator I should NEVER be locked out.

Sure.
http://lovebugfans.yuku.com/directory Yes, Dr. Herbie and I administrate the same board. We have this complaint intermittently from several users, all using AOL. I've suggested 'allowing cookies' for the board, but many users don't how to do that.

You have 6 AOL IPs banned. This can cause serious problems because AOL doesn't have that many IPs.
People are obviously drawing the IPs that are banned and they log on with them. The only way to fix this is to unban the IPs. The IPs that need to be un-banned are the IPs starting with 205 and 64 Unbanning those is not a security risk, because when you ban a AOL IP, all the user has to do is log off from the internet, log back on, and likely they will draw a different IP to log on with. Banning dynamic IPs doesn't accomplish a full proof ban, it only bans the IP for a particular session and it often accidentally bans users who should not be banned. |

HA! That's hilarious because that's what I just did and came here to report on it.
I was afraid the above would eventually come back to bite us. Hey, thanks for the support. I managed to figure it out, but it's great to know we have the help if we need it, and so fast. THANKS! |

The board owner probably banned an AOL user. AOL recycles ips.
