Restrict new users from making threads

Posts: 5 27-May-09 11:40 AM	Tags : None I searched for an answer, but found nothing .. My message board allows users to post Free Classified ads. I've recently had some people taking advantage of this, and they've been making new user accounts and posting under multiple names. I could ban them individually, but .. I would like to only allow users with 10 posts and and above to be able to create threads. Is this possible? There appears to be no solution to this with yuku, hopefully I overlooked it somewhere. Thank you

Posts: 1653 27-May-09 12:06 PM "I am not staff!"	There is nearly a solution. The minimum would be one new topic per day. Admin > Community Settings > Security Change the Default Posting Limits to whatever limit you want (apart from 0). Submit. You would then need to alter these in Member Management as time passes.

If you you want to restrict them from starting new topics in the classified ads forum(s) until they have 10 posts on the board, you can do that. Set the forum posting restrictions for leads to restricted http://support.yuku.com/topic/7569 and then use the exceptions link to set a 10 post minimum.

Posts: 2205 28-May-09 8:19 AM munificent member	We have a forum like Kathy describes. It's set up where a member has to have one post to view and be a member for a month to either lead or reply. The only thing about the setup that isn't perfect is that we'd just as soon allow members to view the forum as soon as their application is approved, whether they've posted or not. That's not an option unless we do something manually.

Posts: 94 6-Jun-09 9:39 AM	My forum also has a classified style board - one of the most popular destinations on the site. Some nasty flame wars broke out there - emotions are higher when money is involved. As a result, that board was set for a 10 post/1 month minimum membership requirement. A clear set of do's and don'ts was stickyied to the top of the board. I used CSS, etc., to hide the "Quote", "Reply", and "Quick Reply" options so that no one can post comments about the classified offerings. On request, the forum administrators may override the membership requirement on the "Member Management" page. Since the change, I've had little grief from the classified section. It has cut down the moderation issues by more than half. Tom
