Move From EZboard to Yuku |
Lead | ||
|
We still use ezboard and to be quite honest do not want to move to yuku, is it a required move?

It's not required at this time but eventually ezboard will no longer exist. Yuku is the new upgraded form of ezboard.
Do you have any specific concerns regarding Yuku that we can address? |

currently, no. it is likely that there will come a time when ezboard closes down, and all remaining active ezboards will be forced to move to Yuku - but you
will definitely know when that time is, they will make it very clear when ezboard is closing down. I heard someone say it will happen in December today but it
wasn't a staff member and I haven't read a thing about that anywhere else, so if you don't want to move I would just stay put where you are for the
time being.

ezboard, Inc. has stated that users do not have to move to Yuku unless they want to, although they expect that most boards will be switched over eventually. Additionally, admins were given a minimum of 12 months to make a decision, starting from December 2006. [27] It is unclear what will happen at the end of this timescale or if it will be extended.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezboard#ezboard_and_Yuku The source link points to the ezboard questions page, which is now returning a 404. At the very least, an updated timescale would be helpful. |

OK - so then the ezboard migration will definitely NOT happen before December 07. based on the amount of features remaining from ezboard that still need to be
implemented here on Yuku (like the threaded view, which is hard to code, so I assume that will take a while) an e-mail will not be sent out on December 1, 2007
saying that ezboard-yuku mandatory migrations are beginning.
in other words, I would bet money that you have plenty of time left on ezboard, BB6.

Yes, that was written in Dec 06, and 12 months minimum was stated because we could not guarantee what we would be doing outside that timescale. That
doesn't mean that therefore on the 1st of Dec 07 ezboard will be closed down and all boards migrated.
I will be looking to update that page soon, as obviously time has now passed, and plans may have formed or changed. |

I opened a yuku test board and it is just more confusing than ezboard. Adding backgrounds and graphics is much easier on Ezboard than it is on yuku. Also when
I made all the changes to the yuku board and I log in the front of it is still the black color.

That's fair enough Alison, although as the page no longer exists it might not be as simple as updating it.

There is a WYSISYG editor for the backgrounds and such that you can use for creating the look of your board if you don't know a thing about CSS, it's
very simple and easy to use. Maybe that will solve your problem about it being confusing. If you want that custom look and not use predesigned skins,
that's what I would suggested.
To get to that you go into the navigator box, click on admin, then on community skins. When that page comes up, you'll see the buttons following the skins that are already on your board, one of them is marked WYSISYG. Click on that and it will take you to everything you need to customize. Same for the profiles. Yuku is very easy to use once you get used to it. It's just different than what we were used to and I admit seems overwhelming at first, but after a little time and tinkering, it's lovely. A lot of us that have been on Yuku for some time say it's hard going to back to Ezboard because we've gotten so used to Yuku, Ezboard is difficult to remember how to navigate
Before giving up I would suggest give it some time. And if you need any help at all, ask here or on Skins and CSS help (for customizing the color and background, you'll get a better response there for those questions), there's a lot of wonderful people around who can help solve just about any problem. |

So...if there are no mandatory migrations happening yet, then WHY is the ezboard that I frequent being FORCED to transition to
"Yucki" this week - even though the Admins have NOT requested a transfer (and in fact submitted tickets to request
the transfer be stopped) because the majority of our members do NOT want to move until we absolutely have to??

No ezboard has been migrated without the knowledge or agreement of the admins. The ezop of your board has agreed to migrate to yuku.
Edited to add: We've found a ticket from your admin asking to stop the migration. We can do that, of course - but perhaps your admin should talk to your ezop?

Is this something that only an ezOP can change?

I'm the ezOp of the board mentioned above.
ezBoard/Yuku began the migration process with no input from the ezOp or Admins of the board. When tickets were entered, there was no mention of stopping the process. The migration itself is F***ed up and I've exchanged numerous emails about it. No one has ever mentioned that the migration could be UNDONE. How do I make it STOP, Alison??? |

Rose - she is actually mentioning my ticket in which I asked numerous questions about the ezsupporter *and* the question as to whether the process could be
cancelled. I was told to enter the id of our board in a reply, which I did, to which I have heard nothing in return.

When I requested my board to be transfered to Yuku I was specifically told that once we requested this it was final, there was no backing out. In my
correspondence with the staff they confirmed that I did want the board migrated before I was put in the process. Maybe they changed the process as I had my
board moved in January, I'm not sure, but no one at Yuku is just migrating without consent. You had to request, no one was forced.

rmangles, I talked to Peyton about this earlier, and after that discussion she emailed you about this. But she has not been getting any emails from you.
The migration cannot be reversed, but that is only after you've actually moved over. If you don't wish to migrate right now, then you can look into a test board so that you can get used to it and then migrate your real board over when you're ready. |

I have used the WYSISYG thing and there are just so many things to change...and then when I save it and log out and then go back to my home page it is still
the same home page that was there when I started the board. Also I am not sure how to put the banners in. It is not like EZboard where you can just go in and
add the url...

BB, the very first slot in the "images" page (click the button to the right of your skin) is for a banner. just pop the URL right in there.
I'm not sure why it would stay the same as it was before when you saved changes, unless you edited a skin that is not applied to your board. you see, you can design a skin and NOT have it show up on your board at all - until you decide to "apply" it. that makes it show up. this way you can switch between multiple skins. click "apply" next to the skin you edited/designed if it is not applied to your board. |

I would have to say the likely culprit is that the skin isn't applied. That's the only thing I can think of that would prevent a skin change from
showing up.
