Long time no see I thought it was time I gave my board a face lift yesterday so i set about adding a new header and things - nothing fancy but the changes look good IMO. Anyway as I was using the wysiwyg editor I noticed a few things and couldn't figure out what they were. And me being me I was to scared to go investigating incase my hole board collapsed and died LOL. So here's the question just what are breadcrumbs and onion skins? And who ever gives me the sarcastic breadcrums are made from bread and onion skins come from onions gets a kick up the rear :p Have fun Louise x

They reside at the top of your forum and they are the links to return to the previous pages. There is also a set of them at the bottom of the topic page. Onionskins are just extra layers to your boxes or "divs". I assume that is why they were given that name. But really they are just extra divs added to the html so that we have more areas to 'play' with when styling a board. Cedar made a nice chart to show what the different classes on a page are here: http://skins.yuku.com/topic/3630 That will give you an idea of what class effects which part of the board. .

But since your answer was very helpful I have taken my shoes off and promised not to cause you any bodily injury Well I'm glad I asked about those breadcrumbs because its been driving me mad trying to figure out how to change the bits at the top of my board that are all the wrong colour. Well like I said I didn't want my board to collapse and die so i didn't change the breadcrumbs. Thanks for your help and for the link - will go check that out. Lx

Posts: 2762 13-Aug-08 3:41 AM munificent member I felt so automated	I like the Hansel and Gretel analogy for breadcrumbs because it's pretty accurate Bread crumbs lead you home (to the directory page). Course you can also leave them for Cedar's alter ego. Then I always think of the movie Shrek when it comes to onion skins. There's that line that is something like Ogre's are onions. They have layers! Onions have layers, ogre's have layers! I think of onionskins as layers for my boxes (really that's what they are after all). That's the only way I can keep my terminology straight. Posts: 421 13-Aug-08 6:03 AM	If you give each onionskin div a border and some padding they will become visible as outer layers around the box content. Without padding, margin or borders they are totally invisible and take up no space.

I want to do fancy ones like Arizona's skins - like I use to have on ez - but haven't had the nerve to try on Yuku yet.... (I figure I better let Andrew have a good long rest before I mess around like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL - yikes! actually... I probably better wait until I have his permission! )

You can have as many copies in your list as you like...they don't hurt anything. I used to peel apart the existing skins in the library to figure what they were doing. Now I nearly always use Chris's "8 step program" lol..that I modified a tad to my prefernce, then I use the wysiwyg editor till I am nearly done. Even though the editor has some problems with "fixing" code that I don't want "fixed", lol...it works great to a point. I like it because it helps me when I need to correct the inevitable flaws in the IE's. IE does not have a live editor like Firefox yet, so the wysiwyg I find invaluable.
