My neighbor down the street semi adopted two of them, an orange and white tabby and a black cat... Maynard (not well named as Maynard is a girl) and Fritz. Two very sweet outdoor cats she takes care of (shots, fixed, and well fed) so they're sort of our neighborhood watch cats. Maynard is the sweetest thing, always come running up my steps when she see me out so I can pick her up and pet her.
So I thought it was Maynard that darted under my porch. I go around the side and make the little clicking noise with my tongue that makes Maynard come running, but it wasn't her. It was a little orange and white kitten that looks a lot like Maynard.
I expect him (it's a him) to dart off at seeing me, most of the strays do, but he didn't. He ran up and rubbed up against my leg.
I love cats... we have two (used to have three, when we put to sleep our 'catatude' black cat I said no more cats until Onyx, the worlds most neuroticly nervous cat dies) but with the baby, I certainly don't want another cat in the house, let alone a stray! I don't know what it would do!
So knowing this would be the end of me, I went back in the house and got some cat food and a bowl and put it out for him. I was gone for almost an hour, came back, he was sitting by the door. I pet him and realized he was sticking around especially since I fed him.. but he was sooo thin
He tried to come in the house, I wouldn't let him, I was in the house for an hour, go outside to get some things out of the shed for the garden before hubby leaves for work... the kitten is still there.
I think I just adopted a cat
He followed me
around the house, through the backyard, to the shed, back around the house.... finally I got out some more cat food and water for him. He's just going to
have to deal with being an outside cat!

There is no harm in outdoors cat I have one myself and not for lack of trying to
entice her indoors, thanks to some morons she doesn't like closed or dark spaces. Just make sure he has somewhere safe to go when he thinks he's in
danger and also has a place out of the chilly cold and overbearing heat and she will do fine. Don't forget the water and if you live in an area where I
live hide it from the birds otherwise once they have had their baths there's none left for Kittie.

Down here my 3 cats and 2 dogs never have fleas due to some great flea/tick products.
