I just got word from someone that these popups are still occuring on our site. It appears that they're happening from the ads within the posts. Does
anyone know the quickest way to get this addressed? I submitted a ticket to Yuku 3 hours ago but have not had a response.

There are three or four recent threads around here about virus/trojan issues. Last week, Microsoft provided this critical update:
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-067 - CriticalI wonder if some of these problems are related to issues that the update purports to address. |

For those who are getting the warnings without an automatic download, and if you are using Firefox, please consider installing an add-on called
"FireBug". When Firebug is installed, you can hover over an ad and find out who is serving the ad. Since two or three ads are served per page,
we'd need to know of all ads on the page who is serving them (the warning doesn't tell whether it's ad 1, 2 or 3 that is causing the warning).
To download the FireBug add-on in Firefox: click on 'tools' in the top toolbar click on 'add-ons' click on 'get extensions' in the dialogue box's bottom right hand corner search for 'FireBug' first extension on the page, click on 'download'. You'll need to restart Firefox to get it installed fully. A little bug will appear in the bottom right hand corner of your browser window. When the warning comes up, click on the little bug. A part of your screen will change and show code. Above the code part is a row of options, the first one being "inspect". Click on 'inspect', then hover over the ads. It will show who's serving the ad. |

Even faster is to follow this link and install firebug from there:

I can only get the problem to occur in IE6.

Does it happen in IE6 when it doesn't happen in another browser on the *same* computer? So are you using the same computer with two different browsers, or
are you using two computers, with different browsers on each computer?

I actually got it to go in Firefox after shutting off the pop-up blocker.

so shutting off the pop-up blocker triggered the antivirus2009 thing?

I received a pm from another board member who in this case, had an auto-download of something that now has her unable to access the internet. Her details are:
PC, Windows XP, using Internet Explorer (she did not give me a version number). One ad she remembers was "Randomnewnames" and there was another that
started with the word "internet."
Am I the only person that sees this as serious? Kind regards- rainbow glo

Oh, I got this like last night, and it took me a while to figure out it was really serious. I cleared it up with AVG and Ad-Aware, I got a new window opening
up in my Firefox about how they detect something on my computer...It hasn't popped up in a while though, so I think I got rid of it.

It's still happening with me too and it's not just the anti-virus scanner thing. I get other pop-up ads too. While this is getting resolved, is there
a way to fix this or block them because I use IE 7 and even my pop-up blocker won't block them.

I'm sorry, but is it really fair to ask out members to install this "firebug" add-on to solve Yuku's problem? We are still getting these
complaints, this evening I received several complaints. Here is a snippet:
1. just got hit with yellowpages for "auto rental" (redirected, not even a popup, just straight re-direct) 2. Just this morning alone, I've been redirected when loading Yuku to: Nowask.info playlist.frazoo.com premiumlivescan.com (this one starts downloading and scanning. . and McAfee pops up and stops) sunroadauto.com 3. the ads that take me to another site just sweep me away. I can be scrolling down, and not even hit on an ad, then all of a sudden, I'm somewhere else. It's kind of like a twilight zone. At first, I thought I was accidently tapping the mouse on something, but now I'm sure that's not the case. It's real weird, and it happens on the Amishville website, not on this underworld. The spyware one just freaked me out. I can't have spyware on my work computer. I can't have it on my home computer either, but work is just unacceptable! Yuku needs to do something and do it immediately. Log out of your own paid account and browse some forums, you'll see the problems. Don't make the already frustrated users do the work for you! |

Add my name to the frustrated. I have asked my members to not access the board until I can assure them this won't happen to more of them. I am embarassed
& really unhappy that *my* board has caused a virus issue with my members.
ETA: They were redirected to yellow pages as well. They did not click on anything. |

Here is a wonderful program to get rid of your malware. Save it to your desktop first and run from there. Be sure to update before using again next time if you
have to. Run a quick scan and delete everything it finds. The check marks will be in boxes for you when scan if finished...good luck

You guys are completely blaming YUKU when this could be completely from the Antivirus 2009 program. It can cloak itself and ride your computer till it finally
has put itself in every little file it could find.It originates from porn sites and disguises itself as a vid. codec for playing porn. You DO need to download
things to fix it and you WILL end up destroying your computers if you don't. It will keep changing itself and getting around everything you do till you get
something to stop it. I had Norton reps do there best with live help and had them connected to my laptop when I got it and they couldn't even get it out
when they went into my REG. files and removed its roots. It changed itself and did everything it could to replant itself in the computer again. All the Norton
got it to do was slow down the pop-ups. I ended up getting SpyHunter and used it to do a complete search and destroy of the Antivirus program. It does not use
hardly any CPU untill it is running. It doesn't take long to do its job at all. Get it and quit your complaining.

I don't think you understand, Troy. You keep trying to link us to programs to get rid of stuff. We're complaining about the constant attempts that
these 'ads' are making to PUT the trojans onto our computers. My computer isn't infected. I have AVG free to stop every endless attempt that these
trojans are making.
I agree with the others. If Yuku can not find the source of where the trojans are coming from, they need to disable ads for now until it gets solved. (but hey, as a sidenote to those who have Firefox and did download the little program, I hope you do find something.)

Yes, I am.. Unfortunately. I haven't seen the antivirus ad since my last post reporting it. I am however getting threads that lock up and then try to
minimize the browser so that I can't get it to close down. Saazy or Zedo's url keeps constantly loading on the bottom left.

We have gotten several more emails today that there are still are problems, the most recent about 3 hours ago. Here is
samping of the problems being reported just today:
* My computer just said the a virus called "bloodhound" tried to attack my computer 3 times while on the site. * The last 2 days it has not allowed me to make a post. Today I was reading a thread and it shot me to the yellow pages website and then some other random website when I tried to get back. Then I got back to the site finally and my computer froze. * My PC freezes up and I have to restart it to get back to normal. I can always get into the board and there were times that it was OK, but most recently, it will freeze after I entered two or three threads. Above the START button, I get a variety of messages that move very fast; opening page, zedo, etc and it keeps on spinning as the PC fereezes. * Had it happen twice again this morning on the thread discussing actual attendance numbers for this weekend's game. Around 10:55AM. Using IE 6. I also had this error occur two night ago at home when using Firefox on a Mac. * On certain posts, I am automatically taken to another site - once an obama site, then a environmental site, then yahoo site. I click the back button and it brings the page right back to the other site again. The problem only occurs within a post. It just started now for the first time. 10/29 9:50 am People have notified us they're done reading our board until this is fixed, so we're thinking of starting the process of finding a new board. We're starting to run out of credibility and we're losing our readers. If it were on day, I can understand, but it's coming up on a week since this was first reported. That is a long time. This is a serious issue, and I agree that the ads should be pulled until this is taken care of. |
