I have my community security set to "approved members only". But today I noticed that on the different forums (Forum & Chat
management), the setting is "no view restrictions". Then when I clicked on "Forum Security", all the forum types are "public".
Does this mean that the forums are public, even though I have the community set for "approved members only". Would I need to change each forum
security to "approved" for reading (approved only) and posting (by approval)? I wasn't sure if the security for the community would override the
public security of the individual forums. Thanks in advance, Blue

You don't need to change the forum security.
If your main setting (on the security page) is approved members only, then nobody can see your board or any of your forums unless they apply for membership and have been approved. Only your "members" can see the forums. It would not be a good idea to make your forums private in addition to having your community private. |

lol no worries.
If you give me a link to your community, I'll be happy to check your security. Since the community is private, feel free to send me a private message with the link. |

I would think that even if a board is private, owners might like this option if they'd like to restrict certain forums to specific members. If a forum is hidden to begin with, you don't have to choose anything stronger than "no view restrictions" to keep it private. The other options are for situations where you'd like to display private forum information to the community as a whole. In those cases, reading would be restricted; but the forum name wouldn't be hidden on the main board page.

I believe that Chris meant that it wouldn't be a good idea to make all of the forums inside a MBA board private. It would be a lot of extra work. But even
MBA boards may need an invisible forum or two, at the very least they need one for the admins.
