Posts: 141 2-Dec-08 7:01 PM	Tags : question Just recently a user on NT made a thread about getting a trojan from browsing... Has anybody got a Virus off Browsing here? Just got a trojan and someone posted in it... I had a .pdf tab open on my browser yesterday. Then a bunch of pop-ups started appearing. i dl'ed AVG and it found a Trojan and a Regisrty Key. Also i had something called GotModule that i coulndyy delete.Can anyone recxommend any other programs i can use for this because i think it's missed some other viruses. ..and just now, personally, my Adobe Acrobat tried to access the internet. - blocked by my firewall, since I use that which is listed below... tupac003 wrote: Whats the best antivirus software? Theres an ad that appears that is pushing a pdf script and that has the virus. I just experienced at my work computer and see that some other people have it. You might really want to check it out so it wont spread. Posts: 141 3-Dec-08 6:29 AM	...This really needs to get handled sooner rather than later...and without the hullabaloo of the previous malware issue. when our members talk about not visiting the boards anymore or installing Ad-blockers b/c of the safety issue...that's a serious issue.

I have a board member who picked up the trojan Vundo Virus on Sunday night. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vundo The Wiki says that Malwarebytes will remove it. Unfortunately, the virus comes back, even after removed. She said that it hides somewhere under Windows (I don't know what that means) and re-creates itself time and again. She no longer posts. Can you let us know if yuku is taking any proactive steps to make sure that the ads that are being served do not get hit again with malware? I can understand it happening once...but this is the 2nd time within the past 2½ months.. that's not a very good rate. Our users are very concerned for their computers and privacy, and rightfully so. I would hope that yuku is being proactive with those companies whose ads they are using, to make sure that this type of attack on user's PCs are limited.

Posts: 141 4-Dec-08 7:13 AM	^thanks chief...but I already use FF3 but it's not just happening to IE users...it's happening to PC users, regardless of their browser. edit. and let me just add..that regardless of the browser yuku's users are using....yuku has an obligation to all its users to ensure that anyone using yuku's services are not affected by malware served by their ads..and not just simply handle it on a case by case basis. These aren't kids downloading from torrents and limewire. many users being affected are adult aged people who simply come to our board for entertainment or a break from their work. Posts: 534 4-Dec-08 10:13 AM	I guess I don't understand this completely so if someone can explain it to me I'd appreciate it. I was of the belief that only free boards had ads. I emphasized free there because nothing on this planet is entirely free. Is that where this is primarily happening, on free boards? Or can this happen on paid boards with ads allowed to be shown? I'm a yuku supporter, have a gold board and I never see ads of any kind any where on yuku.

Posts: 1263 4-Dec-08 11:04 AM	I can't speak for NT, but I can tell you that my board member has Supporter and my board is Gold. She also visited another board which is not Gold. She got the Vundo Virus Sunday night. The NIke Talk virus is a different one, but very similar I think. I can also tell you that, even though my board is Gold and I have Supporter, there are numerous cookies that load every time I go to my board. On occasion, there will be the odd cookie or two that tries to load when I've opened a thread. But, they are tracking devices, not trojans/malware. I did have my computer crash, though, a couple of months ago ... I don't know if it was the Antivirus 2009 and I don't know how I got it; however, it did have all the "symptoms" including pop-ups, flickering, freezing, shut-down ... until finally it would shut off the second I turned it on. Since then, I've updated my Sun Java and have not had any problems at all, but I don't know that that is why. I don't know what version of Java my board member has. I'm always updating everything on this computer, seems like I spend a lot of time updating windows, java, IE, Dr. Norton, etc. etc. now than I ever did in the past. I've been aware of the growing problem with malware for a little while now. Obviously it just keeps getting worse. In any event, looks like I'll continue my habit of staying logged in and stick to gold boards I already visit that don't allow ads to show to their members.
