Posts: 7 26-Jan-09 4:10 PM	I'm a font freak and I was wondering if when posting a message and clicking on the font choices............would it be possible to have an option at the bottom of the list of fonts that allow the poster to insert the name of the font they want to use and it will show up in the post? Another words, in MSN when you clicked on the font options at the bottom of the list of given fonts there was an option to click that says something like: 'Add Your Own Font', or something like that. When you click it on a small window opens up where you can type in, say.........Juice itc (after first highlighting what you had already posted) and then click 'OK' and.........Oila! The font is changed! I just love using different fonts when I'm sending posts. It just adds variety, color and personality to it! I'm just so sick of the old standard fonts. Boring! Boring! Boring! The simple way to achieve your result is to make a post and choose a simple font to change it to. Next, click on the HTML button so it glows yellow and add the font you wish to use to the beginning of the font-family that you find there followed by a comma. e.g. font-family: Blackadder, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;

Posts: 2205 27-Jan-09 7:18 AM munificent member	"Fantasy" is a generic font family. It tells the user's browser to display the fantasy font set in the browser's preferences. I'm viewing the lead post in Papyrus. When one posts in unusual fonts, it should be kept in mind that these fonts aren't necessarily installed on everybody's system. I don't have Blackadder, for instance. There probably wouldn't be a lot of harm done technically if the ability to manually enter a font was made available in the post editor controls. If a user doesn't have the chosen font installed, I'd guess s/he would see the font that would have rendered had the poster not changed it. Keep in mind that Fantasy fonts are probably the most "dangerous" choices for use on the web. Appearance and installed bases vary wildly, meaning what the reader might end up seeing is very unpredictable.

After a few experiments I've found that you have to enclose the font that you want to use with quotation marks and then put the comma. Thanks again exstreamuser! I'm the happiest camper around! But instead of showing up in Verdana, like the "plain" posts in this thread, Catwoman4u's message shows up in Arial. I looked for Stylish overrides, but I didn't find any. Arizona, what's the default font for messages on this board? I'm not finding that either.

It appears that Arizona was content to use the Yuku default font rather than specifically setting it in the board's skin. This is the default in the first style sheet loaded: {font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;} As Verdana is my favorite font for viewing web content, I'm pleased with the choice. That still doesn't explain why I'm viewing the post above in Arial. Maybe its a Safari thing. The font preferences in that browser don't offer a lot of choice. Maybe I'm actually seeing Verdana in Firefox. alison, when I want to quickly see what font I'm viewing, I fire up the page in Safari and copy/paste a chunk of text into Text Edit. Pasting from Firefox won't leave font formatting intact after pasting, but pasting from Safari will. As an aside that's way off topic, I'm totally loving the Firefox Choosy extension (OS X only). It makes it possible to right-click a link and fire it up in another browser. I should probably say "totally liking" rather than "loving." The interface could be better; I'll leave a comment on Choosy's addons.mozilla.org page when I get a chance. EDIT: You don't need the Choosy System Preference panel to use the Firefox extension.
