Why the secrecy?
I'm also looking at migrating a fluxBB messageboard to Yuku. As well is there a way to export/backup data from Yuku, just in case. I know it's was a long time ago and a different software system but the 2005 data loss of ezboard (Yuku's predecessor) is an example of why backups are important. |

No secrecy, it is easier to talk in private, because we need to see the community, know some details, and ask a few questions and it is more comfortable to do
this in private rather than in the public forums.
The community of the lead poster in this topic was imported successfully but we cannot currently import boards from fluxBB

You use the word "currently". What can I do to change Yuku's mind?
Here are some current known statistics on FluxBB/PunBB messageboard usage - around 800,000 users with an average of 7000 per board. Please note there are lots more unknown boards. Also can you answer the question in opening post in the the next paragraph? |

Also in the next week or so the club UQMC will have access to the raw database files so no "scraping" will be required. As linked in the above post
fluxBB (a recent fork of PunBB) is an open source messageboard program with I believe accessible documentation about the database files so it should be easier.

Every system has a different architecture, that's why the same importer can not be used for all systems. Writing an importer is not something that can be
done in a day, maybe a week at the very quickest. Due to some big projects going on right now, there is no developer who can spend a week or more to write an
importer. The importers we have are for systems of which many boards asked to move. Look at it this way.. I live in a street where there is no cable. I have
asked different companies if they would consider putting cable in, but the problem is that I'm the only one in this street asking for cable. In order to
make an investment, there needs to be a potential market.
An importer would likely not be built when one board requests a move. We regularly get requests from different systems and those requests are kept on file. What we have done in the past though, when there is one single board, we have offered to make a skin that would resemble their board (as long as it is not a generic skin offered by the hosting system), and we'd help them set up the board and get settled in. Though we can't import the data, the old board can be kept as an archive. In reply to your other question, there is no way at the moment to back up your own boards on yuku, but all boards are backed up by us every 24 hours. |

Which systems can Yuku currently import from?

I was hoping the size of the potential market would be enough to sway Yuku to write an importer. So if anyone else is interested then it looks like current
admins of FluxBB/PunBB have to be contacted to post in here, especially those with current bad services. Plenty might not have considered Yuku and those who
have probably would like that option just in case something like MSN happens
.
I'm also interested in the other systems supported besides Vbulletin. It may be that other systems have importers from FluxBB to their system and from that other system Yuku can easily convert to its systems. Also please note I'm looking at this stage - I'm not admin but a power user and for some reason the admin is resistant to combining it into one board. Can't imagine why - less risk of losing data and easier searching as there is 4 years worth of posts.
