Installing news feeds

Posts: 60 30-Apr-09 9:35 AM	Tags : None I would like to install a news feed on our new community http://thechatcave.yuku.com/ I was able to follow the supplied instructions to install the one from Scripts, and I even managed to center it on the page where I wanted it. However, the code was already supplied for that paticular national feed. I am not acquainted with how to go about getting the feed for our local newspaper articles and I really don't understand the steps supplied in their paper. Also, I really don't want the local news feed at the top or bottom of the page. I would like to have it installed in a category topic so the members can comment on the topics there. Is this possible? Can anyone tell me how to install a news feed of this sort from the Pensacola News Journal onto my community?

ADMINISTRATOR Posts: 348 30-Apr-09 9:46 AM the kute one	Hi there, On the png site, look at this page here, it lists all their feeds: http://www.pnj.com/section/RSSINFO What you do is get the link of one of them, like this: http://www.pnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=RSS01&mime=XML And then paste that link into the rss news feed script, like this: <rssticker url="http://www.pnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=RSS01&mime=XML" num="15"> That will display "that" news feed from pnj. As far as I know, the news feed is only going to work right in the head or footer, but you could wrap it in a box and include a link saying "comment on this story" and have that point to a forum on your board for people to post about it Did that all make sense? Now, if I could just figure out how to put something in the blank white spaces to the left and right of the feed items....lol But I am a happy camper now. I have made a copy of that skin and will try out different things on the copy as time goes by.

Posts: 1653 30-Apr-09 4:22 PM "I am not staff!"	If you can figure out what you want to put in these spaces, we can help you do it. As a guide, maybe nothing much wider than about 350px either side? Post what you want and someone will give you a replacement Custom Header and some Advanced CSS to add.

Posts: 60 30-Apr-09 5:14 PM	I was thinking of putting the amber alert on one side, and the daily weather module on the other side, but both of them keep centering now. I am not familiar with CSS so I'm trying to do it by trial and error. Any help you could give me would be wonderful.

Posts: 60 1-May-09 3:17 PM	That's great. I haven't installed it on my active skin yet though. I am having problems with the bbc ticker. It is only showing the first word in each item instead of the whole line. Not sure what the difference is since I copied the code directly from here, but it probably has a lot to do with my inexperience with CSS...lol. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to help me with this. This board has been very supportive. I wonder if we took off the missing kids if that would help? I will play with it a bit in my spare time in hopes that it helps me to understand the structure better.

Posts: 60 1-May-09 6:24 PM	I'm pretty sure it is full sized 1280X1024 resolution. I'm just using a Yuku standard skin and format right now. I haven't delved into it far enough to know about sidebars...sorry if I sound spacey but I am really new to this. So far Yuku instructions and tutorials have helped me to understand a lot more than I thought I would ever know about forums and I am even experimenting with building a skin from scratch. This is quite an accomplishment for someone who only knew three computer words 2 years ago....mouse, keyboard, and monitor. I am so thankful you are being patient and I promise not to bug you too much in the future.
