What is a shadow topic?

When you move a topic, you have the option of leaving a shadow topic behind. Leaving a shadow enables your members to easily find the topic in it's new forum. All they have to do is click on the topic title, just like they would with a regular topic.

What does a shadow topic look like? How do I tell if a topic has been moved?

Here is an example of some shadow topics.

You'll see that only the topic title and post author columns have information. The other columns just have a dash. and the topics are preceded by the moved topic icon for the skin used by that forum.

Do I have to leave a shadow?

No, you don't have to leave a shadow.

Shadows are just a tool to make it easier for your members to find important topics.
For example, here at Support, we will leave shadows when we move a topic to thea more appropriate forum. We don't leave a shadow when we vault spam topics.

What happens if I delete a shadow, will the real topic be deleted too?
I don't like the looks of my forum will all those old shadows, can I get rid of them?

Shadows can be deleted without deleting the original topic. You must delete them by using the check box while on the topic listing page.
