Probably need a little more info to go on.
If it were me, I would move/rename the images. |

Joyce, please see the last few paragraphs near the bottom of this topic:
Uploading Images - Images & Videos Yuku's policy on bandwidth theft is the same as was ezboard's (ezboard developed Yuku -- that announcement is old but the content is still current): Direct Linking and Bandwidth Theft If you need to report bandwidth theft, please submit a Helpdesk ticket and select "Legal" as the department. Be sure to include specific URLs [links] to examples of bandwidth theft so Legal can investigate. |

Does Yuku have a script that can placed in our community to thwart other forums from copy/pasting our stuff into their forum?

I think it's a case of making sure as a board owner that you wont tolerate bandwidth theft.
Having said that. Many people that are new to using a computer haven't a clue what it means. They innocently use other peoples bandwidth having been told how to get the address url but not having been told how to upload and host images themselves. In fact 9 times out of 10 here on Yuku those that are using others image urls really are unaware that it just mustn't be done. They aren't even aware of what bandwidth means. I am still often coming across people that are really shocked when I tell them that the image they have in their signature is using someone else's bandwidth and that is in fact theft, and that they must upload to their comp and host it themselves. So if one does make a post saying that you wont allow people to use other's bandwidth, an explaination of how to upload it to their comp and then host it in their own gallery here on Yuku would be helpful.

I think the best explanation I've ever seen for bandwidth theft is that it's like running a long extension cord over to your neighbor's house in
the dead of night, stealthily plugging it in there, then going back to your own house and connecting all of your electrical items to that cord. You're
stealing your neighbor's electricity and your neighbor gets stuck with paying the bill. Some neighbors may not care, especially if you ask first, but
others may yank the cord out of the receptacle and call the police. It's always best to first look for a sign on your neighbor's property that says,
"Free Electricity" or ask them how they feel about your plugging in that cord.

What actions does Yuku take against a community that allows bandwidth theft and has several threads full of said violation?

Joyce, I can only guess because the Legal queue is not something with which I'm involved. My guess is that a complaint that comes from the owner of the
image or the website where the image is stored is necessary for Yuku Legal to take action. Legal's action could take (for example) the form of a warning
for the board, a warning for a specific repeat offender, the removal of images or posts that contain hotlinked images, the locking down of a board that allows
or encourages hotlinking after having been warned, the banning of a user(s) who engages in hotlinking, etc.
If images are hotlinked but their owners don't complain to Legal, I doubt that Legal would take any action since it would be assumed that the owner didn't wish to "press charges", so to speak. I suggest submitting a Helpdesk ticket to Legal and asking about this. Situations vary and only Legal can really answer your question. |

Hypothetical question - is it bandwidth theft if it's a Yuku hosted image being posted on a Yuku board considering there isn't bandwidth limitations
for a hosted image on Yuku?

Sorry to butt in, but those in my experience, arbitrary claims, are often the result of personal grudges. I still remember my MSN Groups days when it was often
used to attack other posters. There is a pretty clear line between abuse and use, while the companies that host those images can block (ab)use by checking the
referral. So as long as the hoster doesn't complain and there isn't a clear example of actual abuse I can't see why Yuku would bother. Just look at
the implications, when Yuku go after a single poster then almost everybody turns into 'game'. Think of all the smilies, posted news articles etc.

dawgstudent wrote:No . You can post yuku hosted images from one account on another. I do that will my smilie folder all the time. I open
the ones from my own board, but use them on others. The only problem I could see with with grabbing another Yuku hosted image to use, would not be bandwidth but copywrite, if the image is someone else's. |
