Nice design on the Yuku Blog page. It's clear and easy to read. Great idea!

could do without the shamless plugs for boards though, it detracts from the official nature of the blog

@ DrHook! Just went to the Tow Truck site! Very active board there!!
I have no interest in tow trucks (except when I need one ), but it was
interesting to stop by!

if I have to explain it, you wouldn't undertand it in the first place, therefore wouldn't understand the explaination in the second place.

So why can't you then explain the explanation of the explanation?

Bad to the Bone Bob wrote:I disagree Bob. Why not have the occasional link to any specific board within a post that is relevant. The whole idea of an official blog isn't just for present Yuku members to keep up with official news but also to draw others in from around the web. And the link to the Hockey Board was very relevant to the post. Yacking on about simply official bits and pieces is only going to be of interest for present members. There are people out there that are going to stumble across that blog and wonder what Yuku is all about. With the occasional links to various boards, or even profiles, it might pique their interest enough to go further walkabout within Yuku. Publicity has to play a very big part in an official blog. The only thing I would hate to see is the blog only pointing links to the larger boards. Yuku in the past has been fond of pushing larger boards and ignoring the smaller people which has riled me something chronic. The ordinary, everyday people aren't interested in these gigantic boards. They are looking for light, fun communities to join in with. Ok, the Hockey board announces it's self as an "Official" fan club which probably means it is going to end up a big board, but I do think it nice that they have been given a mention so far when it hasn't yet built up it's posts or members. We haven't a clue yet what this Blog is going to be about or how it's going to be organised but it certainly should cover all angles of Yuku and not just official type announcements. We have our announcement forum here for that. How boring that blog would be if they only made official Yuku announcements on there. I know I for one wouldn't bother to go visit it. I am pleased to see that it looks as though it's going to have a variety of different type posts. |

Its confusing to link to boards that don't offer help in a blog entry discussing help.
Find people on Yuku and online We sometimes hear from people who are looking for old friends on Yuku
Yuku in the past has been fond of pushing larger boards and ignoring the smaller people which has riled me something chronic. The ordinary, everyday people aren't interested in these gigantic boards. They are looking for light, fun communities to join in with. That approach has been detrimental to the networks growth. Forum Find doesn't work right, it uses google and if trying to find my board or similar ones to it, it shows competing boards on off site networks . My
board is way down on page two. Forum Find should strictly be looking at Yuku.
Pushing the same large boards all the time doesn't help the small ones grow to be large boards, my buddies left Yuku 2 years ago with 1500 members, now they have 4500 and get new members everyday.

Bob makes some good points.
I just wanted to say, though, that I think it's a good idea to have various links to various boards -- mostly so that people can see what the boards LOOK like and how they can be designed and organized. I know that when I was looking around at different forums/boards/locations that I found it very frustrating that I couldn't really tell what I could make my board LOOK like and I couldn't tell how it would work -- it would have been nice to see some possibilities. So, that the Yuku Blog has links is a good thing, in my opinion. |

LININCT wrote:In the past I also have spent hours on various systems also trying to find the way different boards are laid out and it has been jolly hard to find some on some systems. Bad to the Bone Bob wrote:The post it's self is talking about that particular board's owner/admin having trouble with the pending members. Therefore on mentioning that board it is only right that a link should be given. It would be totally unfair to use a board as an example and not give a link. There is also a link leading back to support here for anyone reading that post and wondering where they could get help. Bad to the Bone Bob wrote:This, I notice, is a totally different blog post there from the one mentioned above. I have to say, and I say it with the greatest respect Bob, that I honestly do think you are being very picky here. What does it matter in a post where specific links come. Links are added as the writer thinks of things. One gets a flow and goes with it. If a particular paragraph needs a link, one doesn't then go back and ruin the flow by moving paragraphs up and down. It's obvious by the way the blog is being added to, even with the few posts already there, that this isn't going to be a dry, old, broom up the backside official blog, just reporting basic official Yuku news announcements. It's going to be a blog about Yuku and it's members. Bad to the Bone Bob wrote:I certainly can't disagree on this one. Although if one clicks on the "find" on the navigation bar then one is taken to a Yuku/Ezboard board and profile search rather than the google one where there is a link "inside" the navigation bar. I haven't checked lately but I also believe the search links at the bottom of the pages (communities) also go to the google/Yuku search. I have said this before and I say it again. This is not only totally out of order but is also a ridiculous set up. People visiting Yuku want to search for Yuku communities. If a newbie is searching for boards on Yuku prior to signing with Yuku then they are going to click the link at the bottom of the page only to be sent sailing off somewhere else before they have even had a chance to see any Yuku communities. Agreed!!

A newcomer would read that blog entry and not know where to find people.is the point of the blog entry to help people on yuku or advertise boards? I came away
from it with the feeling it was board advertising, the title said where to find people.
Yuku needs to advertise itself, unfettered by board advert, and not on yuku but all over the net. Advertising boards within yuku is worthless, its only trading members from board to board, not growing the actual member numbers. |

One of the next entries currently being worked on will have links to smaller boards. We also invite people to submit articles, if you have a story to tell about your board, how it started, what your aspirations are.. we welcome and encourage articles from members. |
