If you are on Facebook, post your link here. Let's start a Yuku Friends Club over there.

There are many yuku members and staff members on facebook. We will be starting a yuku club there soon, actually. Just trying to find time to get it up and
running.
If you want to connect to me on facebook, my name there is Chris Wt you will recognise my old avatar. |

I will look for you there. If I find you, I will connect with you. I am using my real name there, but you will recognize me by my photo, I think.

I have one but I rarely use it. I don't like to use anything that wants my real name.

I initially signed up with Smokie Topaz, and that name was accepted. But then all my friends (some of them real life friends) use their real name, so I
didn't feel comfortable using a "screen" name, so to speak. But if I had to use my real name on yuku, I would leave.
I really like Facebook. It became much better than MySpace. I once left Facebook, but I went back when friends thought that I deleted them from my friends list, so I went back because they missed me. Now I'm there to stay. |

Facebook is a true social network. Because there are no message boards there, people are socializing just for the sake of having fun and making new friends,
not for the purpose of trying to get new members to post at their boards. Also, you can play fun games with your friends. I love it there.

When I made my first account on facebook, which is a while ago, I got a confirmation link in my email. I clicked the link and it said my account was confirmed
but each time I want to do something like send a private message, it asks me again to confirm my account and it asks for my cell phone number which I am not
willing to provide.
Since facebook doesn't have customer service, I have no idea how to fix this. I later set up a second account and had the exact same problem, and I have a few friends on facebook who also have that problem. |

Mine is that way also. And I am not putting my mobile phone number on any form even though we don't get telemarketing here.

I have never been asked for my cellphone number. Anyway, my phone number is registered with the Do Not Call Registry, so telemarketers are not allowed to call
my phone. If they do, I report them. But I never get unwanted calls on my cellphone. If I did, I would report them. Still, I don't think I would wanna give
my phone number to Facebook or any other social networking company for that matter.

I got my first telemarketer's call the same day I got my cell phone and those calls haven't stopped since. They give you a number you can call to get
removed from their calling list, I did that several times and they say I've been removed but they keep calling. It is the same company that also keeps
calling my landline, even though I have a private number. I have no idea how they got my numbers.

You should register your phone numbers here.

oh I have, but that doesn't stop 'em from calling. It is only that one place that calls me and keeps calling, something about car insurance. It's
some automatic voice. Due to real bad eyesight, I can't see on my caller id who is calling, if I could, I just wouldn't pick up.

You should report that number at the National Do Not Call Registry. You have that option there, on their home page.

Yah, you should Chris. When I was still in the States, I put my phone on that do not call list and I also did something like that for junk snail mail.
It was not perfect but it helped a lot. |

There is no way I ever give my phone number out on the web unless it's to a large company that I also know well in the high street when I am buying on
line.
I certainly wouldn't give it to any social site, expecially Facebook. Facebook have no morals what so ever regarding how they treat and store people's images, videos and posts. Too many companies nowadays sell phone numbers on. You can get in touch with Facebook's Customer Service Chris, but they hide the link very carefully to cut down on the amount of complaints they get. I have the link as a note on my Facebook profile but here it is http://www.facebook.com/help/contact_generic.php?issue=privacy Use the dropdown menu to select the type of complaint but to tell the truth it all goes to the same place so don't worry if there isn't a topic that you particularly need on that dropdown, choose anyone. I did grab my user name last night but I can't figure out what the heck they are going to do with it as, as far as I can see it just adds ones username to the url. It certainly doesn't change one's real name showing on the posts and such. What is the point of a user name if it isn't hiding ones real name. I think it absolutely discusting that they are trying to force a phone number out of everyone. I will delete my account first before I would give in to blackmail like that.

I started looking at signing up when I found that info. I was reading the FAQs looking for username info, whether or not you needed to use a real name etc.
I don't care about anonimity on the net, doing biz on the net people know who you are anyway. But the phone number thing will end up costing you money and the DNC list doesn't stop them from calling, a telemarking pool can have 100 locations, they all can call you, you have to tell them one by one not to call or report each offense indivisually and if its the first time nothing will be done. They claim the head office does not have to share the DNC list to satellites, its BS but we heard that about 50 times from a transmission repair chain. |

Arizona wrote:I wish they would do something about junk email. I have a yahoo account and just marking them as spam doesn't do anything since the spammers change their information all the time. Social networking means nothing to me unless my friends and family are there. I used to be a regular on MySpace, but now my friends and family members shifted to Facebook and there I am. From my own personal experience, you can use Facebook regardless of whether you give them or not your cellphone number. I didn't.

I had the option...but....... everytime an app or a friend comes that I need to add I have to do the captcha thing. And I also get a message everytime that if
I did not want to do that I could verify by giving my handy number. So, I pretty much don't use the account. My family doesn't either so it is not a
big loss for me. Plus Facebook and Myspace have the charming habit of translating everything to German based on my IP. Really annoys me. Google does that also
but since I use igoogle I have it set up in English and it stays that way.
