Posts: 1848 28-Jun-09 7:04 AM It's so easy To like Yuku	I think we all have about had it with these spammers ruining Yuku and defacing our boards. My suggestion is to make Yuku MBA, or at least, Membership by Approval. Screen every new applicant before letting them post, make them wait 24 hours before being allowed to post. Do not allow in any of these potential members: ghdhddf ytyyhh hghjj ioijk rerf You get the idea. Membership by Approval means we get our Yuku back, and the spammers get the back door with a kick in the ass.

To give you an example: you won't see any spam posts by this one: http://hgsrh.glitterscappostparty.yuku.com/ The account was globally banned before they had a chance to start spamming.

I agree 100 percent as I have banned ghdhddf ytyyhh hghjj ioijk rerf These on my board the last 3 days.

Posts: 837 2-Jul-09 4:25 AM	Enforced MBA would never work at my board. It is a support group for sick people and I wouldn't make it even harder to post than it is already. We have so many people e-mailing to get help to register. They are from all over the world and many of them don't speak English. In my opinion, the spammers do no harm. Just have enough people able to hide posts, that is all you need.

If just one person falls for the nike spammer's scam you'll regret what you just said above forever. The nike spammer is looking for victims to drain their bank account and/or paypal.

I'm sorry! :-( after nine years online I'm probally still naïve! What I meant is if your board has enough people able to hide spammers, non-others should be able to even see them. Also, it is important to inform the members in case they see anyone. I think it is more scary with all the sweet p.m.'s I get from strangers offering close friendships if I just can give them my e-mail address! :-)

Nothing scary about it just delete anything you haven't asked for and delete all the rest that you do not know from Adam.

But if one was required to have a vowel in their name then it shouldn't be announced on any error page. It should simply say "You can not have this username". Genuine people 99.9% of the time do automatically have vowels in their usernames so that wouldn't affect the genuine. There is a chance that spammers could put a vowel in while bunging any old letters in a username but it would stop the vast majority of them. If they couldn't figure out why usernames are being blocked then they wont waste their time trying over and over again to create one. They will simply move on to another system. Perhaps you should send that in as an official suggestion. I do have to say though that having a 2 post reply rule before being allowed to start a new topic on my board has stopped all spamming on my board so far. Last Edited By: Zandranna 8-Jul-09 5:00 AM. There are lots of names that can possibly not have a vowel, such as 123XYZ (its available too) MBA is the best way to stop spammers, asking the network to take care of individual board problems wastes their time, the bottom line is to run YOUR board, don't expect the network to run it for you. Not everyone has problems with spammers, so the problem isn't wide spread enough IMO to take staff away from resolving bigger issues.

The only thing I can see that a system can do is put a capcha in place to stop automatic sign ups, which Yuku has done. It just amazes me why Yuku seems to be the system of choice that attracts spammers. Although it could be because of the word Yuku being a popular word in China. Maybe that's how they first found the system. But also what Dr Lighthead suggests is a great idea if the system wanted to add extra security. Obviously that suggestion isn't totally fool proof as I said in my last post, but it would stop a tremendous amount of spammers signing up if they couldn't figure out why their chosen usernames aren't being accepted into the system.

Posts: 1295 8-Jul-09 2:59 PM	Do the sign up in 2 stages. One for global with a confirming email, then when posting on boards another email confirmation per board, no automatic approval. Most of the spammers just bounce from board to board. MBA communites have much more to offer than the so called open boards.

Those that want to stop the spammers could then choose to turn on the email confirmation. I don't understand why you say MBA boards have more to offer than an open board. It totally depends on what one is running a board for. My Spiritual Board was almost always MBA as it was a small community all working for a common purpose and was only open for short periods when we had a drive to attract new members. But my board now is not so much a community board but more part of my profile, so it's like a drop in centre for anyone that knows me or wants to know me around Yuku. That board would be ridiculous to make MBA as people come and go as they please. A private club is totally different from a pub and some people prefer their club to the pub and vice versa. I like running a pub, lol.
