I use this extension with Firefox but since Firefox updated to their latest version 3.5, the extension is incompatible. Any idea when it might be fixed?
Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the Firefox Yuku extension was created by James (ckerr), who unfortunately recently passed away. |

You don't have to miss the extension if you revert to FF3.0.x Just turn off auto-update.

I'm not sure that reverting from FF 3.5 to FF 3.0.x is possible once someone updated to FF 3.5. Especially since it says at the link that you mentioned
that support for 3.0.x will cease on January 2010.
Anyway, it would be nice if it would be possible to make the extension compatible with FF 3.5 as well. |

You could always run two versions. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable#legacy
While I agree with you, I'm only pointing out that you do have choice. |

Firefox 3.5 is in BETA ONLY. You use that version AT YOUR OWN RISK. You should for the regular automatic upgrade. By then, most add-ons should already be
compatibility-updated.

Firefox 3.5 has been an official release since the 2nd of July, and it's available for download on the mozilla.com home page. It hasn't been pushed to
Firefox 3.0.x users as an automatic update yet, though.

Then I reinstalled Firefox 3.5. The Yuku extension still won't work. This is what you see (the add-on extension is darkened to almost black with red letters):
It reads: "Not compatible with Firefox 3.5." |

The update won't be pushed until it is stable. The current release is BETA. That's why you have install it yourself. I've been using FF since 1.3.

Firefox 3.5 appears to be out of beta. They probably just haven't rolled out the automatic update yet. If you are using Firefox 3.0.3 and go to Firefox's home page, you are redirected to this page: .
They wouldn't be recommending that people download 3.5 if it were still in beta. By the way, this page is interesting:

Oops, I goofed. It's been brought to my attention that the
Yuku Firefox extension was created by Chris, not James.
Sorry for the goof, and sorry for giving credit for Chris' work to someone else.

Well since Chris has not passed away do you think he will be updating the extension?

Well since Chris has not passed away do you think he will be updating the extension?Chris H left Yuku many months ago. We expect that one of the other Yuku developers will work on updating the extension eventually, but it is not at the top of their "to do" list. |

You can always force it to be compatible with the latest FF release. I've done it the way it's explained in this blog (Make Older Add-ons Work) and it
has worked like a charm with no problems. The steps look a little daunting, but it's really easy to do.

Yeah, I do that also because I have an extension to make a Clip to One note work. And it quit working sometime in level 2. But I use it all the time, so I just
changed my about:config. I do those things but I don't generally recommend them. I don't worry as I tend to rebuild my computer often anyway, lol.
Trying to stretch my next rebuild to October when Windows 7 can be loaded cause you have to rebuild then anyway.

bixblitz's link doesn't work, but it's likely that it's telling you to change the advanced about:config compatibility check preference. The
downside to doing this is that no extensions are checked for compatibility.
Another method for making an older extension run is to unzip its .jar file, change the "maxversion" in its install.rdf file, and rezip the .jar. This will cause the single extension to attempt to load without having to disable the compatibility check for all extensions. Neither method guarantees that an extension will run in a new browser, although many will run just fine. Authors include a "maxversion" for a reason; the extension hasn't been tested in anything above that version. Moral of the story: if you try either of the above, other Yuku members are likely to help you, but I wouldn't expect staff to endorse what you're trying to do. |

Ah, sorry about that link, but what I was linking to was the method you explained.
If anyone cares, here's the link again: http://www.palaestratraining.com/blog/2008/07/firefox-3-make-older-add-ons-to-work/ |
