Posts: 41 17-Nov-09 9:57 AM	I have Windows 7 Pro and I love it. I also never bothered with getting SP3 as it didn't really seem to have too much new in terms of features and I felt too anxious installing it. With Win7 tho, you'll notice in many cases 30 second boot times and much faster shutdown times. It also works surprisingly well on older hardware. (Even on a Pentium 3!)

Go make coffee...come back and check...it would still be booting up. So I always hopped in the shower first. Now with Win7, I click the button to turn on that bad boy and before I even get the coffee grinds in the puter is waiting for me. Love it .

ADMINISTRATOR Posts: 1988 17-Nov-09 4:33 PM	My computer with XP Home used to take 8 minutes to boot up from a cold start. Now it takes 35 minutes -- still with XP. I don't blame XP. I blame all the junk I've accumulated over a few years, and <rant>McAfee (which I would not be using if it weren't provided free by my ISP) because this excessive delay started after they combined their AV and firewall software into "McAfee Security Center". It's extremely proprietary. It grabs and scans every single download, every single app launch, every single breath I take. </rant> I can't understand why members don't do all this. I have heard many comment "I can't be bothered and switch off 'automatic' in Control Panel". I turned off automatic updates on everything I could find a couple of years ago because both Windows and McAfee steal focus and can take a very long time to finish what they're doing. (A major McAfee update can take an hour to download and install.) However, I am very faithful -- almost compulsive -- about checking for Windows updates after the 1st Tuesday of the month, and checking for other types of security updates daily. I've experienced some very nasty file corruption during defrags, so I only defrag when the analysis says it needs to be done. Back on topic... I would very much like to burn this computer to the ground and start fresh with Win 7.

Glad I chose a different virus program as it doesn't hog and if it did there would be plenty of moaning at the Support forums. So what's stopping you burning it to the ground? Can I come to the party when you do this? When you do get a new computer with wins7 remember to stop been a hoarder.
