when I try to post either on my own forum or
elsewhere I am unable to type in this message window as I am doing now unless I first insert a smilie - then I can post and if I want delete the smilie. but
without it I cannot enter the window with the cursor?

Interesting. What browser and version do you use?
Try this: 
When you open the post editor, click as close to the tool bar as possible (where I put the red X's) and see if that lets you type without having to use a smiley first. Make sure to click as close to that tool bar as you possibly can, while still clicking inside the post editor. |

well here I am with the smilie that lets me in
- sorry about posting twice but I am a newbie to this site although been on a hundred sites in 15 years and never come across this phenomena. then I minimized
this to check on my browser name and then it wouldn't let me back in to complete the message even with a smilie! - I tried your suggestion of course but no
luck - my browser is Mozilla latest version and I use microsoft Visa.

I don't know whether this applies to you or not but my cursor in FF never shows until I start typing. It doesn't have to be a smiley just anything.
Until then I can't see where I'm typing at all so just click in the right place and type.

Whisper, what version of FF do you use?
Mine doesn't show either, but it does show when I click very close to the toolbox in the editor before I start to type. |

3.5.3 It's not my main browser so I've never really looked into it much. It's just a minor irritant but I'll try what you suggested next time I
post with it.

I use FF 3.5.3 and always see the cursor when I open the Add Reply or New Topic page, before I click anywhere. But -- the cursor defaults to the
"Title" field on those pages. You should see it blinking there, first, before you click on the field where you compose your post. Do you see it in
the Title field?

I'll add in case someone else reads this, I don't see the cursor in FF 3.0.10, but when I click very, very close to the toolbar it appears.
Like whisper, FF is not my main browser so I never paid much attention to it, I rarely use it for posting unless I'm testing something |

I use it all the time. My cursor appears in the title...I just click in this box and it appears here. The only place I ever noticed it not appearing is in

It's funny, I use FF and if I click in the general area inside the box I do not see a cursor. But, if I just go ahead and click on the very left hand top
of the box ...right where I would expect to start typing a message, I can see the cursor every time.
I too can do the click at the top thing too but just always go over to the left corner where I start anyway. |
