Google Search - board url

Posts: 442 4-Nov-09 8:14 PM	Tags : None Hi, If I put my url in Google search http://friendswithdissociativeidentitydisorder.yuku.com/ - just like that, it does not come up. What comes up is Yuku Find. It did come up before, but not any more. I just don't understand this. In fact, it used to come up when I put in key words. Okay - yes, I have added it to Google - but it said something about not being able validate it. But, that shouldn't make any difference. Other boards that were open near the time this one was are showing up as their board name - not Yuku Find.com. Please let me know what to do. It is bad enough that the board was 'forced' into Yuku Find and doesn't show either the discription or the actual stats - so the poor thing looks like it is abandoned, although it is a really nice board - active - and kicking still - and paid for. Posts: 514 4-Nov-09 8:36 PM	It's probably not coming up because Google has probably never cached your board's front page, which is what that URL goes to. The only place it has seen that URL is on the Yuku Find page, so that's why that page comes up when you do the search. However, you can find other pages on your board that Google has cached by putting "site:" at the beginning and taking out the http:// So, in the Google search box, put: site:friendswithdissociativeidentitydisorder.yuku.com/ Last Edited By: SciFiGuy 4-Nov-09 8:53 PM. Avg Visits: 4 Avg Daily Posts: 17 Total Visits: 240 Total Members: 14 Total Posts: 180 ... find.yuku.com/find/communities/?page=3&q=eating - Cached - Similar - For our other board Dissociative Identity Disorder Support Group - I put the board name in or key words and I get. (DID)Dissociative Identity Disorder Support Group - Message Board ...(this is our board name & our url) - 41 visits - 8:04pm (DID)Dissociative Identity Disorder Support Group Dissociative Identity Disorder Support Group. Survivors of Rape, child abuse, Post Traumatic Stress ... dissociativeidentitydisorder.yuku.com/ - Cached - Similar - Do you see the difference? Really big difference. Now, I did do as you said and put in site:...... and that worked - I actually found it down the page a ways - so it does exist somewhere. What I now don't understand is how or why you would need to put site: in first. How the heck would any average person looking for the board know to do that. Sheesh - I never even heard of that before. The thing is that a couple months ago it was showing up with key words and when you put in the board name. What do I need to do to remedy this? Also, I would really like to have the description of the board in the find section. Well.....I hope you can help.....because I am at a complete loss. I know of many new boards that come up in Google when you put the board name in without having to put site: in front of the name. Okay - so I will ask - why and how is this happening? Is the board url somehow redirecting to Yuku find? If so, that is a big problem, since the find section does not accurately reflect the community stats. Thanks for you help. I would appreciate more explanation - and how to fix this. I am not going to write on our board that in order to go to our other board, you have to type "site:" before the board name. We have already had confused members that can't find their way there without going to our board first. hmmmm????!!!?? Best, Felicity

Google is showing you all the pages it has cached which have that URL somewhere on the page, and it happens that it has only cached one page that has that URL on it -- the Yuku Find page. When you type in a URL, it's like typing in a word and having Google search for Web pages that contain that word (or URL). Google apparently doesn't have your board's front page cached, but it DOES have the Yuku Find page where that URL is listed so it is showing you that page. Google doesn't keep its cached pages forever, so it might have had your board cached a few months ago, but now it doesn't have it anymore. If you want to search for pages it has cached for a particular site, you put "site:" before the domain name... What I now don't understand is how or why you would need to put site: in first. How the heck would any average person looking for the board know to do that. Sheesh - I never even heard of that before. It's on Google's page where they explain how to do searches. On Google's page, click "Advanced Search". Then, at the upper right, click Advanced Search Tips. The second paragraph down: Search within a specific website (site:) Google allows you to specify that your search results must come from a given website. For example, the query [ iraq site:nytimes.com ] will return pages about Iraq but only from nytimes.com. The simpler queries [ iraq nytimes.com ] or [ iraq New York Times ] will usually be just as good, though they might return results from other sites that mention the New York Times. You can also specify a whole class of sites, for example [ iraq site:.gov ] will return results only from a .gov domain and [ iraq site:.iq ] will return results only from Iraqi sites.
