I'm assuming for a moment here that an unexpected maintenance screen can be due to a pressing issue that needs to be fixed NOW, without having time to alert members. We have had enough push alerts in the announcement forums here at Yuku to trust that if Yuku knows the system is going to experience down-time they will give us a heads-up.

As for losing changes:

It's good practice to always make a copy of something. I guess I've had too many browsers crash on me while I was posting a change, which is why I've made it a habit. I always have a notepad document or two open while I'm changing stuff, so that I can quickly copy and paste anything I am doing with css or html into it just in case. Doesn't matter whether it's Yuku or a web design or a post on another system... if it's labour intensive, I make a copy separate from the browser in which I'm working.

(and I make a copy of any skin I'm going to change, so that I can always revert back to the old one if need be. I've only had to revert back to the old one once, but heck, it was worth it!)
