I noticed ... that their blogs are as bog standard as ours. As they think theirs are an acceptable blog will it means (sic) that all hopes for ours to have a decent upgrade in line with real blog systems go out the windowyuku is organic... which is why a tree is the perfect symbol for it. Communities grow and entwine with others, providing a fertile environment for different things to grow and evolve. The building of yuku is not organic however. I've drawn parallels between building a house and building this system in the past, and I am going to do so again. I have a perfectly adequate bathroom. It works fine. The shower is big enough. The hot and cold taps function acceptably. But that doesn't mean just because I am living with the bathroom that I have now, that I find it also unecessary to ever improve my bathroom. I am quite aware that there are things that my bathroom is lacking. Like mixer taps on the basin. A more pleasing colour scheme. A heated floor surface. The bathroom in my last house was adequate too. As was the one in the house before that. Both of those we improved from poor to adequate. But just because adequate is acceptable to me in my other homes, doesn't mean that I therefore wish to never make my current bathroom luxurious. BUT I won't be upgrading my bathroom until I've attended to some more essential works on my home. My conservatory roof leaks in one place, and the carpet downstairs needs replacing, and the bannisters haven't been painted.

A simple yes we will still be updating the profiles and blogs eventually would have saved you a heck of a lot of typing there Alison.
I was also suprised to see you cut the quote off halfway though the sentence. One question I would like to ask. I noticed on registering with kickapps to see what they offer on their system that their blogs are as bog standard as ours. As they think theirs are an acceptable blog will it means that all hopes for ours to have a decent upgrade in line with real blog systems go out the window or are we still on course for blog and profile upgrade.

As long as I don't have to learn a totally different board again I will be totally happy. But adding new stuff will be great I can't wait to see what it is. I like that one I think Bob was talking about the sending of voltage...

brand names that seemed strange when first conceived.
Zandranna, I didn't accidently cut off part of your words, I removed the words "on registering with kickapps to see what they offer on their system " because that detail was extraneous to the reason I quoted you. The three dots are called an ellipsis, and indicate that words are missing. They don't change the meaning of the quote, since the fact that you registered with kickapps to view their blogs isn't essential to the fact that you looked at their blogs. I often type more than necessary. must love the sound of my own tapping.

brand names become so familiar over the years that people rarely think of them as words that have specific meaning.True. And, over the years, other brand names acquire haloes of specific associations laden with meaning. A fine example in the present context is Edsel. |

Sorry, Bob. My analogies can't please everyone.
But I had a serious point to make with the First Bank of Kewl reference. That "KickApps" may someday sound more grown up doesn't help. I was talking about how little trust the name inspires now. And the Edsel reference? Also a serious point. Businesses get into trouble if the policy makers don't listen to the customers. On this forum, we're talking to customer service reps and technicians, not policy makers, but I don't know where else to speak up as a customer. yuku's ambition, evidently, is to turn all ezboard forums into social networking sites, on the premise that everybody wants social networking features and is willing to pay for them. But this premise is false. yuku has seriously misjudged part of its target market. On my board, most of the changes don't amount to an upgrade for most of the members. All we wanted was a better search engine. We've turned off avatars on all but one forum. We've turned off the kudos column on all forums. Some yuku controls for board admins are easier to use than ezboard's, but yuku has more bugs. Admins could see information at ezboard that we can't now, such as statistics for individual forums (views and ezSupporter views) which would help us make decisions related to the new pricing system. Another thing about businesses: keeping old customers costs less than getting new ones. Because some of us want plain and reliable service, there should be two tiers of product. I don't mean the tiers for small boards and big ones. I mean a choice between having the social networking features and not having them. Doing without those bandwidth-gobbling avatars, my board nevertheless has to pay the same rate as a board where members want them. Let the bandwidth gobblers pay their own way. Don't force a luxury product on the "keep it simple" customers who want basic, economical service and fast downloads - especially a product so buggy that it isn't ready for release. |

yuku's ambition, evidently, is to turn all ezboard forums into social networking sitesFortunatly that assesment is wrong. Yuku is to deliver what ezboard couldn't because of the shortcomings in software.Anyone who spent time in the community brain on ez would know that the feature requested by admins and users in that forum are now available on Yuku. Yuku is still very much about bulletin boards.The Social networking aspect of it all is in the expanded ability and capability of the profiles.Another feature set requested by users. Ezboard was buggier than Yuku from my experience, if you were on a server that went for more than a week without a SMA you were doing good. The pitfall of the Edsel was that Ford had a good product for the time but it was over marketed. There was nothing wrong with the Edsel as product in itself. Yuku is under marketed, frankly I'd like to see Yuku go on television and run ads as often as Geico, just because I'm tired of Geico ads. |
