Posts: 856 5-Mar-08 11:39 AM	Well - I could see that a board with a lot of lurkers might run up page views, I'm slightly unconvinced that a troll would or could make a significant difference. I believe a troll can set a thread to refresh automatically and drive views way up in an hour. At ezboard, we once had this happen. There was evidence that a mischievous member did it to harass one of the women. He had kind of a crush on her.

Posts: 2205 5-Mar-08 1:17 PM munificent member	Troll was probably the wrong word choice. Trolls like to be visible, therefore they'll cause their havoc by posting. Because our board likes lurkers, we're paying for guests to be ad-free. Lurkers are the ones who end up promoting the site in the media, so we want to put our best foot forward for them. We definitely prefer lurkers over members who don't put a lot of thought into their posts. Maybe this would be a bit easier if the Ad Settings link would show up on boards that are on 'days'. Currently, the page exists, but a link to it isn't provided. Making the link available would allow admins to get the ad settings the way they want them so they're ready to go should a change in status occur.

Might be an idea, but it doesn't even show up well on a board that's on views, unless our board's got a bug. When I look at control panel, it doesn't appear in the box for community settings, only in the menu sidebar; but you can only see it there if the 'community settings' menu item is expanded; so unless you're looking for it deliberately, it's unlikely you'd notice it.

Well... It's not too late to do what perhaps should have been done originally, and message all board owners or admins (admins may be better, given the number of transferred boards where the EzOp appears to be AWOL) laying out the details of the ads system. Certainly if Alison can swing that automatic notification it'd be a big step forward. We're paying for lurkers too... now! For much the same reasons, as well.
