Cedar suggested I posted this as a bug
My original question was :
"Some users post contentious stuff under another profile name, just to try to be anonymous (they don't understand IP addresses etc).
So if a user has multiple profiles, and a board admin banned one of the profile names, does the ban apply to all the profiles in the account?"
I just tested it on my test board
username1 ("primary account profile")
created username2 ("second profile")
posted on my test board with username1
posted on my test board with username2
logged in as admin and banned username2
logged in as username1 and posted as username1 successfully
tried to post as username2 and it gave the following
"Sorry you have been banned. When an admin of a community bans your profile all your profiles under that account are banned. If you think this was a mistake, please message one of the admins to unban you."
I believe from my tests that the message statement (above) is not true as the ban DIDN'T include both usernames in the account.
I repeated the tests and banned the primary this time. Again the other profile was able to login and post.
So it firms up my belief that the message statement (above) is not true as the ban DOESN'T include both usernames in an account.
