I am having problems with the 'unread' post marker. The markers automatically are removed from a topic when I change pages within that topic or I add
a reply in a topic. It also marks a forum as read even if there are unread topics.

When you enter a post, the system marks it read. That is the way the software is designed.

I have to agree with Lt Sara.
It is driving me nuts every time. When I come into a forum and see a thread with three pages I don't know if I have seen the two previous pages. I just go to the last page. Then I realize I need to go one page further back and whoops, even though I have not seen any of those posts they are marked read and I have to read through all of them to not miss something. The last page I have opened, those posts being marked read is the correct thing. The posts on page two, that I haven't seen before, they shouldn't be marked read only because I have opened page three. It's an odd behavior and not what people are used from forum software. |

When y'all open the forums, don't y'all have an unread icon by the unread topics? If not, put one in there so you won't have to open up each
topic.

Well, that's not the problem. Of course I see which threads have unread posts. But for an a thread with multiple pages I don't see which pages have
unread posts. It's gambling to choose a page. It might be the first page with unread posts or not. But I have only one chance. If I picked the wrong page
to start reading at the information which posts are unread is lost as ALL posts in that thread become marked read, not just the ones of the page I opened.

If you use an unread icon, inside the forum the unread icon will stay there indefinitely until you actually open the unread thread.
Navigation >> Admin >> Design >> Community Skins. You'll see your skins there. Select Images and scroll down till you see Topic Icons. Place the unread icon image URL of your choice in the line for New Reply. Hope this will help you.

Well, I don't know how to express myself better.
I have a thread. The thread spans over several pages. I open one of the pages. And all posts on all pages will become marked read. The "all posts" part is the problem. It is not intuitive and not helpful and not what people are used to. I and apparently other people are used to only having those posts being marked read that have actually been presented to me and not posts on pages I have so far not seen. |

are you viewing in threaded or flat view? We have similar problems with the icon and are threaded. We don't have new posts marked, have whole boards
unmarked when some things are still unread, and never know what is new. I have this bug http://support.yuku.com/topic/6487

Yes - the board is threaded. There is also an issue of going into a thread and then leaving when there are unread topics. The 'unread' marker is
again removed at the thread list level even through there are topics under the thread that are unread.

I certainly hope so. At the top of each forum is a "mark forum read" link - what IS that point of THAT if it AUTOMATICALLY marks a forum as read even
if one hasn't WANTED it marked as unread?
Is there a DATE for the next push? |

no, I am afraid that there is not.
mark forum read will remove the new icon from all threads that you have not entered. |

But, from the main board, how does one remember if there is an unread icon WITHIN a forum? If there is ONE unread thread IN a forum, the forums hasn't been
READ, yet.
