E-mail Notification still screwed up |
Lead | ||
|
I just had a member notify me that she had not recieved any notifications for several days and suddenly had 250 notifications pop into her mailbox. Several of
these were duplicates as there were cases where there were 20 notifications for posts that only had 10 replies on them in total.

That sounds like a faulty mail server being restarted (perhaps twice).

Are all the mail servers faulty? My members are getting so frustrated with the poorly working notifications that they are starting to quit using the feature.

No, I didn't mean that they are faulty, but if a mail server goes down, it has to be rebooted. And the act of going down was a fault. What caused it to go
down I can't tell you.

I knew what you meant, Alison. It's just a very touchy issue this notifications thing because it has never worked properly and every time they
"fix" it it still doesn't work and members at my board ar grumbling at ME because I'm the one over there with computer knowledge. I
personally don't use the notification so I don't know when it's not working, but there are a few who rely on it and I keep hearing about it

Please do let us know when it happens, because if it's constant I can keep on letting them know.

OK This is getting out of hand. I just got this from a member There is no way this person should have gotten that many notifications. Something has to be done about this. |

I received 15-20 e-mails today for posts old and new.
I subscribe to a forum where our moderators make ban requests and I'd like to think I can depend on the e-mail notification system. Does the problem vary by board? I ask because I had no problems receiving updates from threads I subscribed to in this forum. |

Thanks, we may turn notifications on and off for her and see if that helps.

Alison, just letting you know that after this person's email was bombarded with notifications, she removed all of her subscriptions and left just one set
up for a fairly busy thread at our board, for testing purposes. She has not recieved any notifications for any of the replies that have been made to that
thread. Looks like this has again gone from one extreme to the other.

I continue to only receive notifications from the support forum.

updating again. As I said in pm to Alison yesterday, this person recieved 44 notifications earlier for one thread which had not had 44 replies to it since she
activated her subscription. Last night she recieved 88 notifications for the same thread which, had NOT had 88 replies to it since her last round of
notifications.
The email server seems to be sending and resending notifications that have already been sent out, every time it is reset or something. Before long, she'll be having her mailbox swamped again at this rate. Is anything being done about this? |

I had personally set up one thread a while back as a test of the system. TOday I got 2 notifications of replies on that thread. The only thing is, those
replies were posted on March 28th!!!

I continue to have problems with niketalk.yuku.com and ourfamily.yuku.com.
I too received a ton of duplicate e-mail notifications the other day for old threads and replies so I'm assuming that the server was reset. I removed some forum subscriptions and re-added them to see if that helps. |

Again I received notifications yesterday for old posts ... and I had recieved notifications for these posts previously (same ones from M arch 28) . Why are
notifications that have already been sent still sitting there when the servers are reset anyway?

I'll ask a developer to look at this topic again.
