ADMINISTRATOR Posts: 1775 31-Mar-08 8:11 PM The puck stops here	Do you pull April Fools jokes with your board? I don't do it every year (have to keep them guessing). But I do them when I have time and an idea. The first time I changed the theme of the board to match that of our arch rivals down the road. I also changed the board display name. The team colors were royal and yellow and my board was very bright. Painfully bright. Of course the real joke ended up being on me. When I re-imported the tdf for the main page I forgot to uncheck the apply to all forums box and wiped out all of my themes for the other forums. Some of the forums I had a back up of the tdf and the rest I had to recreate. Another time, I made the main page white on white and the only thing showing was the image in the description for each forum. Then there's the year that I scrambled up the forum order and switched the display names around so you didn't know which forum you would get. This year there is a hostile take over of the board. New name, new skin. Evil Empire

They all feel the "object of our affection" should email me because of websites and boards I run dedicated to the fandom. Now I know this will never happen, but every other year or so (def hafta keep them guessing, good move, Kathy!) I pretend I got an email and "share" it with this smaller group. This year is going to be especially fun because I've actually gotten to meet him a number of times since the last time I played this trick and it turns out he's aware of my site. So it's sorta more "possible" this time. Also he's sent a number of emails to another webmistress and she's posted them verbatim with his okay, so now we know his writing style.

Before I applied the Evil Empire skin to all forums I went into the skin map and took a screen shot of which skins I had on each forum, so that it will be easy to put them back correctly. So far not too much of a reaction, but the team didn't make the playoffs this year so the dead time started early.

It could be bad luck to change things up when the team is winning. So I try not to do anything to jinx things at playoff time.

She got several pages messages and has promised me to revenge next year. Several members said they really had expected it to be true. LOL My medical consultant and long-term member in San Francisco said she was pregnant. She is older than me, but not everyone knew that. She has been at my board for seven years. The best one for my moderators was probally that year they had agreed to fool me. They made an image looking like a broken link/red x and had spread it all over the board before I woke up in the morning. I asked my American admin why the heck we had broken links everywhere? She didn't answer me and I got more and more irritated. LOL while they were laughing in their head off. One of the moderators felt so bad she finally told me. It was a good one.

Posts: 1295 31-Mar-09 4:09 PM	My main mod stopped by today and we worked on this years Aprils Fools gag. In the past we did one that spread to another board similar to ours and got the same people there that we got on my board with our gag. Then a year later we did one that had people on the phone looking for a ficticious product we announced, did that one 2 years in a row and pulled it off. It was fairly involved considering we "faked" a webpage and took screen shots as proof of the fake page. Took a few days after the second year for the website owner to come along and say that his code was edited to pull off the practical joke, but thought it was rather funny and well done. We had people calling the distributors looking to buy this fake item. This year its a little more involved, required some work to produce a mock up of our ficticious product. A some semi fuzzy pictures and a little "editing/photoshop" of a scan of the owners manual to supply support "proof". I'm still working on this years "theme" for Wednesday, but I'm leaning to a "going out of business sale". I can sell of all the posts and the members. How about a fake message that says " This board doesn't exist" or show Smokey Topaz's version of the magician. (sorry Bril I still think its funny)
