Yuku free message boards

Well, quite honestly, I think most people expect that board to be a little harsher than most, Daisy. You can tell those who don't go there from those that do (I'm often at a loss when I hear about the things that happen over there). They're 'style' isn't for everyone, compassion isn't quite in their vocabulary. However, it works for them, people post there because of it.
I've always taken the view that if it works for you, then it works for you. Every board is different. Survivor Sucks is one of the biggest boards on Yuku. If people didn't like the way things are handled, they wouldn't post there.

I've been told (by several people) that we're too controlling over at my boards. Be that as it may, the members who are regulars don't mind or don't feel as if I'm too controlling. We've had several potential members tell us to get over ourselves and they wouldn't post on our RP story (I guess when it comes to off topic, we're cool and easy going, it's the story forums I'm a witch in) if we paid them too. And our joining process (for the story) can be so strict that potential members get frustrated and give up. But we won't change the way we do things... because I guess I'm too controlling We end up playing bad cop/worse cop with potential members. If they can take it and don't think we're unreasonable, then chances are they are the right kind of person for us. Not always, we've had members come along that impressed us right off the bat and didn't get bad cop/worse cop, but a different approach and handled it well.
This prompted several warning disclaimers that if you can't handle the amount of control I exert, find another RP. Niv, one of the admins, and I are downright mean as far as some people are concerned, as we have no qualms of publicly posting when someone does something we don't like. We won't send a PM if you do something wrong, we put it up where everyone can see (that is because if you break the rules, then you are probably affecting several other members as well, and we're an open communication board, everyone gets the chance to weigh in on an issue and/or voice their concerns. It may get posted in a private forum, but it is still accessible to members, just not to lurkers).
Of course with our open communication policy, that generally means the moderator forums are pretty dead. We, as admins, will even yell at each in public. If I'm being stupid, Sev, Niv, and Steph really don't have issue with telling me so. The only things that are really kept quiet is when I'm thinking of banning a member or during the joining process.
