i have two mods on my forum, when I try and demote them it wont work.

No, that's the wrong section. Scroll down a bit and look at forum access permissions. You see columns there (deny access, default, view, reply, lead,
moderate). To de-mod, click the "default" radio button in that section next to each forum where they show as mod
