My Location Map in Profile - that's not MY location

Posts: 15 14-May-08 8:12 PM	Tags : developer I'm on the 3rd coast - San Antonio, but the map shows me on the left - San Francisco ??? the location posted on my profile is correct - it's the google map on My Location block that is showing a map of San Francisco the block states that the map should show the location of my IP, and it was working correctly earlier today so it has been calculating the map pin from the e-mail address on my account, xxxxxxxxxx, which is correct; however, the current code is obviously picking some other IP - maybe yours? 000115 Last Edited By: alison 22-May-08 5:21 AM. Posts: 15 14-May-08 8:22 PM	I have tried changing my e-mail address (using the correct address - again) and confirmed the "change" with my confirmation code - it didn't change the erroneous map block in My Location in my profile. the easiest thing is to move the block out of my profile, but I can use the mass on the left side of my profile skin if you're talking about my previous post, that is only my IP provider, not my e-mail address. Posts: 103 15-May-08 11:03 AM	as does mine, and I nknow my work ip is in Europe - don't bother looking, I have it visible only to myself. The location displayed is typically the location of your Internet Service Provider's offices or technical facilities. In rare cases the location may be your actual address. You can turn off the map if you don't want it to be displayed. maybe it's showing the location of the Yuku offices or the Yuku isp? Investigation shows this to likely be true.

Posts: 658 15-May-08 1:28 PM	If you'd rather give out no info than wrong info, you can sink the map to the storage area at the bottom of your profile. It won't show then.

Posts: 1 29-May-08 6:56 AM	As it was said before: 1. The location displayed is based on your IP address. 2. It's your ISP that manages the location of each IP address block. 3. Therefore, the location shown is always a general area. The BUG it's not on the location map profile software module. The BUG is on the software module that collects your IP address. I connect to YUKU from two different locations: HOME and WORK. When connected at WORK, it correctly shows the location of the ISP used. When connected at HOME, it shows as if i were at the USA. One could think that the BUG was related to either the location module, or the address stated by the ISP. But if one relates this issue with another issue, we can then have the answer to the problem. The other issue has to do with the community logs. It states a WRONG IP address (127.255.255.255) when connected from HOME. It states a correct IP address (83.240.173.x) when connected from WORK. This bug has something to do with the way that YUKU gets a user's IP address. It should be getting it from the "REMOTE_ADDR" HTTP request header, even if it's behind a PROXY or FIREWALL. 127.255.255.255 is a LOCAL LOOPBACK network. This kind of IP address block does not exists on the Internet. This is the BUG origin. It has several implications, being the profile's wrong location box one of those.
