Mimic Forum is foobar |
Lead | ||
|
On our board the mimic forum feature is bugged. We cleaned house and removed appox 100 members from the site. The source forum has 2 pages of members with lead
priviledges. During the mimic process the membes option is enabled. A previously existing forum is the destination. Regardless of if the member list of the
destination is cleared or not, the result is 4 pages of members.

I am unable to reproduce this problem. I just did a forum mimic, using every possible scenario and it always worked as expected.
The problem you have here is not with forum mimic, it is with member deletion. You have deleted about 100 members, leaving you with 45 members on the board. Your SB library forum shows nearly 100 members on the special member list. Since you only have 45 members total, this doesn't make sense. After checking the log, it looks like the members you deleted from the board remained on the special member list of the forum(s), this is why you are seeing 4 pages with members. It is not a result of the forum mimic gone wrong. This issue was reported a while back and I tested on it but was unable to reproduce it. I tested it again just now and I'm still unable to reproduce it. The board members I deleted who were on the special member list of a private forum disappeared from the list all together. It looks like you deleted the members individually, not in bulk. How did you give them access to the forum? By extending their access in on the individual management page, or by approving their application? Or were they already members of those forums before the board was imported? I don't think it is relevant, but just to make sure, I'll test on an imported board as well. For the time being, you might want to go over your special member lists and delete the members who are also deleted from the board.

To answer your question. Historically we had a section of the board for members and non members - read only. One had to be registered I think to post,
possibly read and/or post. Then we had a private side that was by invitation. At some point we used passwords also and left one post open so people could
see there was a private side but they could not enter. No new members have been added since Yuku took over. Hundreds of previous members were deleted over
time (pre Yuku). We are struggling with access for former member that are still members but haven't been around all that frequently. Possibly because we
set or unset the security incorrectly to the way Yuku does it. I assumed none of our admins changed any security - it just occurred post migration.
Since there is more than one admin on our board I can only speak to what I did and saw. Historically we have been a very active guild during ezboards and had several hundred members over the years. Then the membership dropped off significantly, and Yuku entered. Another admin purged the member list. I'm not certain how. When we received complaints of previous members having to request access more than once I started investigating. I'm also not a Yuku guru and still don't really understand the security arrangement. What I did notice was Read access was by approval, and lead reply was All. I also noticed the exception member list (which by the name is confusing because it seems to list all members granted access including exceptions) only listed those that had complained about having to request access more than once. So...... I cleared this list from one forum. I set this forum to Read "apply) and Lead/Reply "apply). Lo and behold the member list now contained 2 pages. Perfect. I then tried to mimic this boards settings (the first board after the chat) on the private side. Sadly no matter what I did... 4 pages of members were present. Even and clearing the member list for the duplicated forum. Currently our entire member list has full access to all forums for the board - there are no exceptions. If all forums could have our current member list (2 pages) associated with full access to all existing forums all our users (especially the admins) would be happy campers. Is it possible for Yuku staff to "make it so?" I hope this helps... and thank you for you patience in attempting to solve this for us.

Could we get this resolved please? It makes entirely no sense that a long standing member list was purged, yet the long standing member list still appears as
vip forum members even if the list is cleared prior to a mimic. We have far too many forums to manually go in and remove members that are no longer members.
What am i missing? We don't have 4 pages of members any longer, we have around 45 members. Why are non existent members still showing? Why doesn't the clear existing members followed by a mimic of 45 members result in 45 members? Can none existent members that have access to a forum successfully log in?

I am sorry for the delay.
After taking another look, this is not right at all. I'm going to move your post to the bugs forum and we'll work on a fix there. Thank you much for your patience. |

Do you mind if I try deleting the members that shouldn't be on your special members list?

That would be fine. The member list of 45 is current as of today. I'd be happy with forums having no more than 45 members
Please try this also.....
mimic the membership from "Other Games" to another forum. "Other Games" has a membership of 45 based on a mimic of Citizens General forum.
The destination forum will result in zero members. Also try manually adding (by typing member name) Pendan123 - Yuku will report the member does not exist
yet this is a valid, and LONG TERM, member. The same seems to apply for any member without the *.shadowbaneplanning suffix (Global Membership ??)
thanks for the assistance. |

I'm the other admin spoken of in Post #3. How I purged the list was via the batch method. I sorted out members who have not visited the board shortly after
the Yuku takeover (since It appears that everyone was last seen at the changeover.) And I did a batch delete from there. I think we went from 227 registered to
arround 40 or so. After the purge I went through and cleared the access list to the MBA forums. I then went about switching the proper forums to MBA, Switching
access Perms in a batch to Lead in public, Lead in Private and Read Only in the Archives. It was then we started having issues, and Jeln was helping me try to
fix the problem. I beleive it was at this time that the bug he mentioned came into effect.
I also have another ticket that I need to reply to about the access/security issues that we've been experiencing recently. |

Wolf Shaman, your comment might help a lot, thanks.
I will be pressed for time today, but will have time over the weekend. Would you guys mind if I added a test forum to your community? I can delete it afterwards, but I would like to move a list of members to a test forum instead of messing with the real forums. Is that all right with you? |

I personally have no issues with this. We've had some test forums that we just took down that we were running tests on. Unless Jeln has an issue with it, I
think the other admins will be fine with this.

Thanks. One of many problems is that the settings on the individual management pages don't match the actual access. Your community needs a lot of sorting
out and cleaning up. I've thoroughly checked all of your forums and will be back tomorrow. You'll find my post in your private forum:)

I have a similar issue.
I have a public forum with a private section. After removing one person's access to the private forum and mimiced the forum settings to the other private sections everyone lost access to the private section and I can not mimic any settings now. I have submitted a trouble ticket on Sept 9th but am trying other avenues to try and get it resolved. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Trouble Ticket Number

Hello JasonAlaska,
Your ticket was just brought to my attention, I will be looking at your community shortly. Can you link me to a private forum that has the correct amount of members re access? |

Thanks Chris W962 Link follows
http://scaredscriptless.yuku.com/forums/13 Basically every permission in that forum should be the same as all forums under it, IE: Troupe Members Only - General (Troupe Only) through Show Stuff - Flanagan's Wake There are a few exceptions but I will make them manually once all the other permissions are fixed. Thanks for any and all help you can provide. I'm at my wits end and do not know what else to try. Marcha has been attempting to help me in my trouble ticket but as of yet it has not worked. Following as that suggestions for others who may have the same problem in case it might work for them. Thanks again! -Jason-
