The press 1 for English is pretty standard when calling businesses that are national in the States... that's what all that is about (or press nothing for English and pressing 2 for Spanish).

However, being a csr, I have to say I like having the Spanish option because I don't speak Spanish beyond a few words I remember from high school Spanish class. Even Spanish speaking people who somewhat speak English I wish would choose the Spanish option because often times I'm going over legal things with them or telling them important information about the money they're about to pay the company... and they don't completely understand what I'm saying.

Though, back on subject, I'm very much in favor standardizing units of measurement. The metric system makes more sense. We already have soda pop in metric in the States... 1 liter and 2 liters, why not everything else?
A one world currency would benefit us as well since our economies are more international now. We could stabilize individual economies (yeah like the falling American dollar...) if all money was the same everywhere. Of course that might hurt the bigger countries whose wealth depends on the currency being stronger than the rest of the world's.

And lastly there should be an international language. One that is spoken for all countries. I just don't know which one would be best, though right now it English is the one that is used most in business. Children should all be taught that language, because quite honestly, if you can communicate with someone else, you understand their world better. The internet has gone a long way to help break down the fear of other people outside our own countries. We understand other people are people and we know more about their cultures and it's lest mysterious and less frightening. Stereotypes get broken down when you can understand someone.

We had a neighbor, they just recently moved, who is Arabic. We called him Crazy Muslim, but loved having him as a neighbor. We felt safer with him around because his attitudes were something we very much have lost in America now. He looked out for everyone in the neighborhood. Someone tried to steal our second car once (which I almost wish they had because we weren't driving it because the brakes were totally shot on it, would have been interesting to see that one get very far) and Muslim caught them and scared them off. And when the transmission was went in our working car, he would make me take his car to go up to the store up the street rather than walking because he didn't want me walking alone in case something happened to me.
I learned a lot about a country of people that I really had no idea what they were like. They weren't like what I saw on TV. Fortunately, I reserve judgment on everyone, everyone as a whole and everyone as an individual, until I get to know them, so I really didn't have preconceived notions on how he should act, but I did learn a lot more depth about the world he came from... not because he talked about his life in Arabia, but because I got to know his personality and his values. He speaks English, so we could communicate better and understand each other.
They moved out into the country so he could raise his livestock.. he loves animals and has been as happy as can be out there. His girlfriend Debbie comes back and visits a lot because her brother bought their old house, so we get to find out how their doing, thankfully
