Tonight when I was modifying my header, it wouldn't pick up the style setting in its class. The only way I could get it to work was if I set the styles directly in the div tag. Please and thank you

Posts: 2228 12-Aug-08 11:00 AM	There are a couple small errors in your current CSS. Maybe one of those errors interfered with the CSS for your header or else there was a error in your header CSS? CSS is very tempermental. Even small errors can stop whole chunks of your code from working. Btw, if you like I can go through and fix those small errors for you. You had a couple errors for things like not including units after some numbers. (You have to tell it what type unit the number refers to: px, em, % or whatever, if you just put a number with no unit it causes an error.)

That would be great, thanks And I'll have to go check my CSS settings because I have a bad memory; I can't think of what settings I used right now What I do know is none of them seemed to work when I put them in a class in my CSS. However, when I put them in the div with the HTML style tag, they worked just fine. **EDIT: border: 8px outset green; margin-bottom: 5px; background-color: #2d2d38; text-align: center; Those are the settings I used in the class that I put in my CSS. Posts: 2228 13-Aug-08 9:01 AM	Ok I fixed the errors in your CSS (in global CSS). One I commented out because I wasn't sure how you would want it fixed: .yukunews { color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold; /* font-size: 4; */ } You need to enter a unit after the "4" for font-size or else it's invalid. I imagine you probably want to use "em" but wasn't sure so I just commented it out so it wouldn't cause an error. I have no way of knowing if the errors I fixed had any effect on the code you tried for your header btw. You'd have to try adding the code again and if it still doesn't work I could check it out for you. You may have had a small typo or something when you tried it before. Common typos are using () instead of {} to enclose styles, forgetting the period before a classname and leaving off an ending ";" after a style. Those are easy to overlook so double-check for typos like those in the case something doesn't work. Btw, this is the site I used to check your code and find errors: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-...idator/#...idate_by_input If you enter your CSS there now it will still throw errors for the opacity settings but only because that code is still non-standard so the validator doesn't recognize it. (I cleaned up actual errors you had in the opacity code too though.) The code for opacity won't interfere with any other code because it's not actually an error so don't worry about that bit. All other code validates now. I didn't check your HTML btw. I saw things like double br tags that really aren't valid but I don't know if anything in your HTML would effect your CSS working although it's possible. Last Edited By: Kristin 13-Aug-08 9:05 AM. Posts: 541 13-Aug-08 1:18 PM	Well I wasn't really trying to make paragraphs (I only ever use those for text). Bad practice? Also, I tried the class out again, and it still doesn't work. If you could check it out, I'd really appreciate it. The class is at the bottom of my CSS, and it's called div.header1. I tried using just .header1, but that didn't work either. Since the CSS class didn't work, I went ahead and commented it out and added the styles back into my HTML until this is fixed Thanks!

Posts: 2228 13-Aug-08 2:29 PM	Did you try it without removing your inline styles first? The inline styles will override the styles in your stylesheet. I tried this and it worked: div.header1 { border: 20px solid #009933 !important; } Using !important makes it override the inline style. Of course users can't save styles with !important in them on Yuku.

Posts: 541 13-Aug-08 5:47 PM	Tried removing all of the inline styles and just put them in the div.header1 class, and it does the same thing. When it's called from the CSS field, it doesn't use any of the styles. The only way you can get the effect you want is by putting them directly in the div tag in your Global HTML Header.

Posts: 2228 14-Aug-08 2:41 PM	For some reason your browser must have been caching the old code. I just tried experimenting again on my test board with my copy of your code and I only needed to do a regular refresh (just clicking the reload button on browser) and nothing else to see changes.
